My thoughts and opinions on the 54mm/60mm Plastic Toy Soldier collecting hobby. Yes I seemingly rant at times and we explained in one of the first posts that we would be. So if you do not like that sort of stuff we suggest you leave NOW. Also look for some thoughts on history, informational posts and a bit of fun stuff from time to time.

New K & C Alamo
The new K & C Alano figures are now on sale. They are Plastic(?) and painted and the scale is unknown to us. The prices seem high although if in scale one may wish to add a set or two and I do not feel Plastic collectors will be building any armies with these costly figures.

AIP Afghan
I noted that it seems the AIP Afghans aka Taliban are all over the place. Did I miss something ? I thought these were released a month of more ago ? Perhaps dealers are just now getting their stock. In any case we have already seen a rant about them. Writer who we are told served a tour or two over there states the headgear is wrong . But we understand that. We know ACW re-enactors ya can't show a figure too. Seems folks are more critical when they they have been there and done that.

Get it right
A group recently posted a photo of a hobby related magazine editor/owner with the caption "Our Leader". The site got NOT one comment. Yet the owner of another group went IMHO way overboard in his objections of the photo. Again in our opinion he showed what we and many others have said about him for many years. He is a fool.

Buildings, New and Old
Their seems to be an influx of new buildings. CTS and Hobby Bunker have always had some nice entries as had TSSD and WTSC. as well as Barzso.
Now Austin Miniatures and Paragon have upped the stakes. Details continue to improve, some are panted, prices keep climbing too and unfortunately to us at least many are different scales.

Quickie Rant
The new TSSD Alamo figures are great we are told but were made to fit with CONTE's Alamo figs. This means they are big. We much prefer CTS Alamo figures as we have stated in the past. TSSD also states the Defenders can be "EASILY" be used in other time periods such as ACW and the Wild West. We assume they mean easily used with conversion as ALL poses have flintlock muskets or pistols. They claim the Mexicans can also be used as French of the Napoleonic era. Again we assume they mean with conversions as all of the rifles are Bakers and have the unique sword bayonet fitted. (A few poses are not carrying a musket.) The French never used this weapon.
So much for being picky. LOL LOL Austin Cowboys look good, and we told they smaller then TSSD cowboys. Their new buildings look big and bulky and we prefer the crisp clean lines of the TSSD Western buildings.
Paragon new figures look darn near perfect.

Thoughts at Summer's end
The end is near and that means OTSN. The really cool guys now say OTS. Anyway we do not have much to rant about until we see the new stuff (plastic) that is released there. We are disappointed to hear that supposedly most it will be in 60mm. Paragon we hope will stick to its sort of middle of the road scale and Barzso to 54mm if in fact he releases any figures. TSSD, and Austin figures we hear will be big .
We also have heard that we can thank CONTE for the large forthcoming TSSD Alamo sets. TSSD determined that collectors want their Alamo figures in the scale of Conte's figures. We wonder how CTS feels about that. No one even asked us but that is OK as we do not do much with that era so we could care less.
Oh yes look for a surprise with regards to the Paragon US Cavalry Horse Holder set.

Toy Hunters
It has been awhile but here goes. Several readers of this blog keep sending me an article from the Prince of Plastic HAHAHAH In any case he is telling folks he will be reviewing the 3rd season of Toy Hunters and has notified them of this fact. And he will show the truth behind what ? This warning from a man who uses EBAY to compare prices ????

More Alamo
More Alamo. Ok I like it but not one of my top three. A lot of that has to do with the disappointment it ended up being thanks to CONTE. I had my Marx, CTS and lines I had added that fit well. Then along came the Conte line. Too big and he never finished it in any case. Now TSSD is giving it a shot. Based on their past track record of Large figures and the few pictures they have posted I think we are looking at some more BIG guys. I for one do not need Alamo figures in two scales. I do not need more figures to sit in the dust of my basement with the TSSD Civil War Line. Funny how most early TSSD soldiers like early Conte figures fit in pretty good with the existing lines of the time . Wonder why that was ? ? A member tells me he asked TSSD about the size and was told in part TSSD was NOT making CTS or Marx figures......

Popular Topic?
A week or two ago we posted a picture of the Dead and Falling Horses out there. We seemed to have sparked some interest in the Marx Dead Horse as another site posted a picture and asked was it the Dead or Lying Horse. I would have thought this "prince of Plastic" would have known that MARX referred to this in the records we have seen as PL-705 Dead Horse. Silly Expert! LOL LOL

2013 Texas Show
I do not do show reports etc but will pass on info from the readers of this blog. Paragon had a new Indian War Era playset on display and it will be available at OTSN 2013 in the Fall. Paragon site should have photos etc soon.
We are also told that Ron Barzso was at the show and stated he will do the Yorktown set but it has been delayed. He will have prototypes etc at OTSN. This should satisfy folks and I would think and end the flame war between PM editors and Stad. Actually it was a one sided war as the Editors of PM have way to much class to comment.
TSSD also showed an Alamo prototype figure or two and the new buildings. All reportedly will be available at OTSN.
So it will be a long hot summer it seems with NO new items. Looks like a great Fall.

Never Happy
Some great photos out there on various forums of the 2013 Texas show. However that guy in PA wants sales reports, who was in attendance etc. Just never seems to be happy. LOL LOL
We are glad no one has been reported to have any problems with the weather. Sales and attendance were both impact by the storms we are told.

Wyatt Earp was a man, a big man...
No wait that's Daniel Boone. Ok ...Wyatt is too. I finally got to see and handle the TSSD "Earp" set. Big boys all around. Great detail. Just too big for me. I am told the Cowboys are big too and I remember an issue of PM reported they were 60-65mm. That must have upset the folks at TSSD. But it was accurate. If I had a set I would mostly put them on a shelf.
I can only hope that his rumored impending release of two sets of Alamo related figures are scaled back somewhat. I have loads of Alamo figures but will not use them if they are equal in size to Conte's. Nope I do not use Conte's either.

Horsing around
Here is a photo of some of the 54mm Indian Horses out there. My Fav are Marx and BMC. The worst in the world to me is the CTS one. The CTS riders do fit the TSSD "ponies". While I like the TSSD one he is just soooooo big.
Blankets optional on the CTS and TSSD ponies.

EBAY Seller RANT
While looking for a certain Atlantic set for parts I ran across a seller offering the entire set Mint.
Mint ? He states the box has a tear, the figures are off the runner and it is a missing 1 item. It is actually missing 3 items!!!
This self proclaimed Toy Soldier Expert has done it again.

Comments Various Topics
Reading some early reports on the Indy Show. Most say attendance was down. (as was the NJ Show a few weekends ago) Barzso did not preview any product. Austin Miniatures had a few more poses but still no plastic product. They supposedly stated they would have plastic product for OTSN in the Fall Cowboys remain popular it seems as first evidenced by the sadly (IMHO) over sized TSSD Lawmen and Cowboys last year.
Cunnyngham Collectibles has stated "Fear Not!" their Union set will be released BEFORE the planned Marines Set. That is good news to me.
More soon.

Update
Have not had much to say lately. Nothing much to rant about and no new purchases to talk about....yet.
I did pick up a few things at a show in NJ last weekend.
For those who asked the boys in the barrels are....Ron Barzso on the left and a custom one I came up with on the right. I will have more about him in the future.
Right now I am looking forward to releases from Ron Barzso and Paragon. I do not plan to hold my breath waiting for Pegasus Germans.
Soon I hope to have the creative juices following. Please stay tuned.

Copy Cat ?
Sometime ago word reached us that P & P had copied a figure produced by Stad's. Well, isn't that what a lot of the products were from P & P ? Copies ??? They (Stad) are quite picky when copying anything they deem to be their property such as photos. A short time ago they took a UK dealer to task for using one of their photos.
Well now it seems the tables have been turned as evidenced by the photo above. Which we are told is a Reamsa figure that was produced well before the figure Replicants was commissioned to do by Stad. We do not have a copy of the P and P figure that started the debate.
Wonder if we will ever get the true story

Scale aka Girth now ?
I got a copy of some PM reviews in which the new TSSD Cowboys were listed as a Large 64mm !!!! Wow another item off my Want List. Oh yes, the photo for comparison of a Marx Cowboy and a TSSD Cowboy leaning or bent over was of no use.
The review section further lists the TSSD Roman era figures at Super 60mm scale (?) I do not care for this era at all.
A review by PM of the NEW CTS Germn sets turned up the word "Girth". We like this application of the term.
"...they look comfortable in height with MARX, if not girth. Perhaps its the secret formula to work with all scales ....."
Hear, Hear PM !!!!

Nope, not another
Well it looks like the X-Force figures of the ACW ( 3 of the major branches) are NOT for us. Just too many objectionable details. One individual has suggested one could start another "World". All well and good but we do not subscribe to this point of view. Our Conte and TSSD ACW for the most part have been packed away. They just do not work with what we have and we are not interested in another "scale/world".
FYI
Blogger/Google allows us to create pages that are part of the blog BUT not connected to the main page meaning you will not get notice these other pages have been updated. They do not even Date stamp these other pages (sigh). Please be advised we do update these pages so you may want to scroll down to the bottom of each to see if we have entered something new from time to time. Thanks for your support !!!!

SIlly Man
One of my Fav Fools , who has a blog reported among other things (all silly naturally) that nothing new had been reported for 2013. Silly man. Paragon will release their last Cavalry set in Sept 2013. That same month Barzso will release his Yorktown items. And of course TSSD states on their site they will have 2 figure sets released in 2013. Although no contents are mentioned some say one will be Texas Rangers. And those are just the new releases we can think of off the top of our head. And as for that attempted bombing in Germany that "you were aware of" as it was not reported here. Wrong again. Many of us get and listen to BBC World News. Go rest your ego.
